DEATH * BY * METH

This is dedicated to Travis Holappa who was kidnapped, tortured and murdered on July 25, 2004 in Northern Minnesota. This was all due to meth. I am Travis' mother and I wish to make this devastation turn into a better thing by educating and exposing the truth about meth, the dangers, and the deadly consequences it brings about to individuals and communities.

I want to do what I can to educate people about what is going on around the world with the meth problem. I want people to know about it BEFORE they even get the idea to want to try it. It is a dangerous drug and will ruin your life as well as all those who love you. I am on a mission on behalf of my only son, Travis.

Meth - No Big Deal on TV

I was watching the show HOUSE the other night on FOX. The episode was #29 "Hunting". It had to do with a gay guy who had AIDS and who took a cocktail of different street drugs. One of the characters, Cameron, found some meth in this guys personal belongings. The show is obviously more detailed and if you wish to read the summary, it can be found at: http://www.tv.com/hunting/episode/476885/recap.html

I watched as the character Cameron took meth, looked totally whacked out and lustfully jumped all over her co worker, Chase, and they ended up having sex. The episode shows her coming into work the next day looking sheepish and probably embarrassed feeling as though everyone knows she was sleeping with Chase.

What really bothered me about this episode and other programs I have seen lately is Hollywood's light view of the meth epidemic in the United States. Why don't they show what happens to many people? Why don't they show how someone can get addicted just by trying it one or two times? Why don't they show the realities in their fables?

The reason I ask is that visual entertainment has a very strong influence in people's minds. I would like to see more reality in the writing of these scripts.

Meth IS A BIG DEAL! If they care at all about their audience and the young adults that are seeing their propaganda, I would challenge them to take up the fight against drugs such as meth and show the truth! Show their audience the addictive, destructive, ravaging effects on a person, their family, their children, the community! Show the people going to prison for senseless murders and rapes because of METH! Show ALL the victims of this diseased drug!

Don't brush over the issue or glamorize it! Be responsible!

Meth is a big deal. But so is Cocaine and Vicodin and.......I could go on. And what about ALCOHOL! It is the most dangerous drug of them all and it's legal! Alcohol kills many more people than meth. It's time to end Prohibition of drugs. It didn't work for alcohol and it doesn't for drugs. Wether you like it or not, a lot of kids use drugs solely because they're illegal and kids are risktakers constantly trying to challenge authority. And with a group like the Bush Administration in power, How Can You Expect Young people to respect the wishes of those in authority. They now want people to believe that Pot causes schizophrinia! Please! One more thing that I do know from experience-the picture that those in the media paint about meth addicts only prevents those using the stuff to resent those people who claim to want to help. It seems like every article written today about meth addicts is hoping to make meth addicts look like violent, deranged, killers-all of whom never bathe, don't work, abuse their children, rob their neighbors, and should be locked away in prison forever. That simply is not true. I do agree that Meth does cause some people to become violent but then again I've seen some violent drunks in my life! In all actuallity it's the lack of sleep and food that causes the violence in most cases. I have heard several of my friends-some of whom were facing prison time say-"In society's eyes we are worse than child molesters and murderers" and you know what-it's true. Now, just how motivated do you think this makes a meth addict(who truly wants help and to break free from the bondage that addiction of any drug makes an addict feel they are living in) reach out to get help. They don't. They are afraid because of the kind of picture society has painted of them. Stop doing this and I bet more people addicted to meth would feel like those in the general public care about their situation and want to help them without fear they will be locked up or shunned. Think about it!

Hollywood is the place that glamorizes sex, divorce, drug addiction and anything else that will make them money.
Hollywood is not there to help anyone, it is there to help itself to the money of anyone crazy enough to go see their movies.
It is there to lie to the public, to present fantasy and sell it.
I pray God to free these people from their hellish addictions.
