Meth Misinformation? or Misinformed Writer?
Readers:
I have just stumbled across a website ~ crystal myths: methamphetamine & misinformation
by Methadist (methadist@yahoo.com) - January 16, 2002
It supposedly shows myths of meth and alledged disinformation. I have read through several of the myths this writer discusses and totally disagree with him/her.
What I hear this writer saying is that in the perfect world where everyone does what they are supposed to do and takes only the amount of medication prescribed for them and never cheats or lies or committs any sin that in those cases that the following statements are myths.
I KNOW what I think and some of you who have read this blog have gathered that I know from 1st hand experience what I am talking about. Not because I have ever done meth but because of so many close to me (mainly family) who have done meth and have been murdered for it, because of it, had their lives destroyed, became schiophrenic and mentally ill, and became addicted to this deception.
You read and decide.
The myths are as follows:
1. Myth #1: Speed Kills
2. Myth #2: Meth is linked to violent crime
3. Myth #3: Meth Causes Psychosis & Schizophrenia
4. Myth #4: Meth Is Addictive
5. Myth #5: "Metamphetamine Is The Most Dangerous Drug This Nation Has Ever Seen!"

The truth is that speed rarely does kill people, that speed can be linked to violence in some but it usually makes people violent that live around violence/abuse, speed is no more addictive than drugs like Cocaine, and Crack, and I disagree with your thinking that Speed is the most dangerous drug the nation has ever seen. In the U.S. there are certain things that have caused the people of this country to make this drug so popoular that are related to our societys culture--such as:the American's workaholic personality in our fast-paced society that makes many Americans drawn to a drug that allows them to sleep less and less and do more and more.
p.s. Oh, also, the fact that some speed users seem to be developing schop. and other mental illnesses stems more from the fact that they go for days, or weeks, without sleep. Sleep deprovation is very hard on a persons mental and physical health. However, if a person on speed makes sure they don't stay up for days at a time they may actually find themselves being able to function better on a stimulant. This is true especially for adults with attention deficit disorder. I am always amazed at the reaction that the general public has towards meth users when we are handing out ritalin and adderal to our kids more and more each year in the public school system. In fact, a woman that has a child in the same grade as my son said that her daughters school had a parent-teacher conf. with her to tell her that they had decided that her daughter(who is 13!)had ADD or ADHD and that if she wasn't willing to put her on Ritalin or Adderal that her daughter could no longer attend school there. Since then the woman has been home-schooling her daughter and she's doing much better with her grades and test scores. This is much more alarming to me than the people using meth. Yet, you don't hear about these type of things happening on your nightly news.
