Drug bust caps long local probe (North Carolina)
A multi-agency drug bust resulted in an arrest and the seizure of drugs and firearms late Friday, Sheriff Wayne Gay announced this morning.
The bust was the result of a several-months-long joint drug operation involving the State Bureau of Investigation, the Wilson Police Department, the Tarboro Police Department and the Wilson County Sheriff's Office.
Felipe Rodriguez, 33, of 4629 Tyler Lane was arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine and trafficking amphetamines.
Rodriguez was placed in the Wilson County jail under $2 million bond.
Gay said officers seized more than 2 pounds of cocaine, 40 grams of meth-amphetamine, two handguns, one long gun, a bulletproof vest, paraphernalia associated with selling drugs and about $80,000.
The cocaine was seized during a stop of Rodriguez's vehicle. Gay said Rodriguez was intercepted while attempting to complete a drug deal.
Law enforcement officers then obtained a search warrant for his residence.
The investigation into Rodriguez began in October when he was arrested for possession with intent to sell methamphetamine.
Gay said the large busts over the past three weeks were made possible by the cooperation of several agencies.
