DEATH * BY * METH

This is dedicated to Travis Holappa who was kidnapped, tortured and murdered on July 25, 2004 in Northern Minnesota. This was all due to meth. I am Travis' mother and I wish to make this devastation turn into a better thing by educating and exposing the truth about meth, the dangers, and the deadly consequences it brings about to individuals and communities.

Location: Colorado, United States

I want to do what I can to educate people about what is going on around the world with the meth problem. I want people to know about it BEFORE they even get the idea to want to try it. It is a dangerous drug and will ruin your life as well as all those who love you. I am on a mission on behalf of my only son, Travis.

Methamphetamine Use

Methamphetamine Use
Shared by bdotburke on Nov 10, 2006 9:35 pm. quote | edit | delete
This drug, metamphetamine, is a drug that has no useful purpose. It's use is habit-forming and addictive usually from the 1st use. It quickly is a persons" God". A user puts out of their life except being high or looking for the money to buy and place to buy.Everyone that once knew the person was unimportant unless they can be manipulated in some way to help them I divorced my children's Dad 32 years ago after a 10 year marriage. We loved each other and had a good life until he was introduced to meth. After his introduction he quickly changed from a good husband, father, and provider to a man that had no morals, beat me without mercy, had nothing to do with his chidren. Before I divorced him he had traded me and our children for prostitutes. Why? He needed money. He couldn't get up and make it to his job. He also became a thief. I was heart-broken when I heard he'd been robbing houses at Christmas time taking even the children's presents.I had to see a psychiatrist and, in short, he told me my exwas indeed a devil in disguise as a human. That is the way I would describe them now, users, if I talked about it.It's use is a travesty for a person, his family, his job, his God and his Country Their behavior always leads to hurt, pain, prison, insane asylum or death. His girlfriend was murdered by him. He shot her in the throat and she bled to death quickly. I'm not a professional and I don't have any training , but, I can guarantee you I'm self educated and I know probably as much or more than a professional. I was educated by my ex-husband, then our youngest son, then our oldest son, then ou or 3rd son. My sister took it up with her husband who is now dead. High on meth he went to his truck and a meth addict shot him in the head killing him instantly. The killer thought his wife was going out with my brother-in-law. You see, Meth causes psychotic episodes that resemble mental illnesses. They have delusions and hallucinations that are horrible. My son thinks he's the devil with lots of power but, as his trip is close to over the Devil he thought he was is a victim that suffers horribly. He's now in prison.I was never rich, however at age 52, 10 years ago, I'd managed to have a nice savings account for my older years. I've spent over $20,000.00 on rehabs, bondsmen, lawyers, phone charges, putting money on his books while incarcerated, supporting him when he got out of jail because I always let him come back home, him promising he'd never mess up again. When he'd scared me nearly to death with his behavior and I was nearly too weak to stand I'd call the police to come get him.I'm really not sure about my title. Maybe it should tell about , Sufferings of a mother with a meth addicted child.

This site makes ALL Meth addicts look like deranged, dirty, sick, violent menaces to society. That does little to encourage those who are addicted to seek help knowing that the rest of society thinks they are such low-lifes. I know meth addicts who say to me "yah know, in society's eyes we (meaning meth users)are worse than murderers and rapist". And the thing is is that when crack, or herion, or even pot began to be used/abused enough that it got the publics attention, the government did the same thing with those drugs and the people that used them that they do with meth/meth addicts! Yeah, I know this is not a popular view pt on this blog but lady your son was just like all those people you post story after story about-he was a meth user/addict. Not all meth addicts or users are violent and some aren't even crazy. But most do need help to get off the stuff. And a drug-is a drug-is a drug.

Thank you for your comments sir. You are correct. A drug is a drug is a drug.
I do know that not all people who do Meth are monsters, but ALL are in need of help and I dare say that 95% of them need help to get off the drug. The deeper issue is that they have not developed coping skills to deal with life, stress, family or whatever. This is the reason they started with this drug in the first place. Trying to fill a void or escape from some part of their life.
If you feel so strongly about this subject why don't you try to do something positive with your attitude? Start some kind of recovery program in your community. Educate people. That is all I am trying to do. If you will look through my entire blog, you will see many articles I have posted that talk about people's recovery. Kim

Yes, you do post the occasional "success story". And I am sure having your child murdered by some crazed meth addicts could make a person feel like you do. I only want to educate people that this drug and the people on it are being made out to be people that most of them are not. And I must add that your comments about people using the drug in the first place because they are trying to fill a void yada yada-Buncha treatment retoric. You sound like an al-anon or AA speaker. And AA, NA, etc, they're Cults. Yes, I know I sound like a crazed idiot but I learned about a book called "Rational Recovery" several years ago which changed my mind a lot about the AA group I was going to every nite at 8pm to help me get sober off of alcohol. If you look up information about cults and then compare it to what they do and say in the 12-step groups like AA and NA you will see that like it or not they are the very definition of what a cult is. Those groups brainwash people. Now, maybe that isn't such a bad thing for some people but it wasn't for me. And so I quit on my own with the help of the book "Rational Recovery". I refuse to believe that coming off meth is any harder than heroin or alcohol(2 substances I have ample experience in using and quiting). Now, maybe it does take a person longer to recover physically from meth-I don't doubt that. But all and all a drug of any kind is hard to quit once it has become a "habit" for you and I just wanted to pt out that I feel a lot of people go about their war on this drug all wrong by making war with the users instead of the drug. Thanks for letting me share, Tom

Thank you for your comments. You should put your knowledge to work for others! I say anything and everything that works to help people kick this drug is worth it. The people in my family have deeper issues from their drug daze... such as paranoid schizophrenia which they now need medication for the rest of their lives. Let's all help whomever we can with what we know. I know think there is only one way to help someone to get off of this drug nor one way to come out on the other side and live a purposeful, successful life. Thanks.

That big sad part is that a Iron Range Intellectual--RangeBilly has been talking about the cure to the root of the IR disease of drugs, alcohol, crime, corruption, power politics, laws, and all the lies, fraud and subterfuge that has sucked us all in; you can see his seven step program that has been hid from you by the media, by judges, teachers, lawyers, politicians and the comatosic majority of Iron Rangers. They are guilty and culapble of all persons who died by meth--of course it's all planned that way.

Very interesting post! It is sad to know that many of the families today torn by drug abuse are suffering from consequences even though many years have already passed. Although not all drug rehab programs work, especially if the victim is suffering from other problems, I think it's best to see a professional. Drug rehab is not the ultimate solution but it's a step to recovery. -Linda

the bottom line is this: you have to get some intervention, state , friend , family, then realize that something is wrrong,,, once we admit we are [powerless over it,, a door to freedom is opened, and now where dope used to be first,, working on my problem is priority.. nobody can lazily sit back and quit, it takes work on self and giving back to others,,listening sharing,,, a good place to do this is at a NA meeting.. i was the biggest craziest dopeheadest dude out there and there is hope now.. 2 years on january 23 rd clean,,,, thanks to God the rooms and all you who teach me daily..... mike d council bluffs iowa

Meth addiction is a bigger problem than a lot of folks think actually. A rehab facility in Canada commissioned a stufy on internet researcj terms in 2007. Over 100,000 people searched for terms relating to meth addiction. It's scary stuff. My heart to you Travis' mom.

eth appeals to drug abusers because it increases the body's metabolism and produces euphoria, increases alertness, and gives the abuser a sense of increased energy. High doses or chronic use of meth, however, increases nervousness, irritability, and paranoia. The extreme paranoia that meth abusers can experience is often associated with a distorted tendency toward violence. Adverse consequences of meth abuse include the risk of stroke, heart failure, and prolonged psychosis. Methamphetamine use has three patterns: low intensity, binge, and high intensity. Low intensity abuse describes a user who is not psychologically addicted to the drug and who administers the drug by swallowing or snorting it. Binge and high intensity abusers are psychologically addicted and prefer to smoke or inject meth to achieve a faster and stronger high. The binge and high intensity patterns of abuse differ in the frequency in which the drug is abused. While the binge pattern of abuse has seven stages within its cycle: rush, high, binge, tweaking, crash, normal, and withdrawal-the high-intensity abuse pattern usually does not include a state of normalcy or withdrawal.
