Mother, Young Son Reunited After Beating Meth Addiction (Oregon)
OREGON CITY, Ore. -- About half of the 400 children in protective custody on any given day in Clackamas County are there because their parents use methamphetamine. It's a startling statistic, and one that Oregon's governor heard about Monday in Oregon City.
This was a more positive look at what is being done to help those at-risk kids and their parents through a variety of agencies.
The governor came to the Children's Center of Clackamas County to see firsthand how the center works. This is where children are evaluated, with everything from drug screenings to regular check ups and then given a plan for treatment if they need it to help them through or out of unhealthy situations.
Gloria and son, Morrison, are reunited after the mom turned herself in to fight her long-running meth addiction, which included overdoses and arrests. That meant giving up her son to protective custody while she recovered.
Clean and sober since September of 2004, Gloria wants the governor to know that prevention and treatment programs can work.
