An ongoing drug investigation has already netted the Louisville Police Department $1350 in forfeited funds with more expected as the investigation wraps up.
The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics recently presented Louisville Police Chief Ricky Peterson with a check for $1350 netted in a drug bust investigation which involves several agencies and crosses state lines.
The bureau has already seized over $83,000 in illegal weapons, cash and other items according legal notices.
The case involves methamphetamine or street name ICE. According to the DEA website, methamphetamines are one of the most widely used drugs in the U.S. today, with over 1.4 million people having used it in the past year. Abuse of meth in the U.S. is three times that of heroin, with a high rate of addiction and a very low recovery rate. Meth is a clear rock like substance "cooked up" from various household chemicals and over the counter drugs. Also according to a DEA press release, foreign methamphetamine trafficking organizations are importing and distributing a more potent and cheaper form of the drug through what the agency terms as superlabs.
